I cannot believe our renter!

Here's a little background on the situation. We bought our first home a couple of years ago. In August we moved out of state for my husbands job and found what we thought was a nice person to rent our home for the next year. She had a little girl and it would be just the two of them living in our home. Perfect. She signed the lease and promised us that she was a great tenant and that we would have nothing to worry about. She then asked us if she could paint her little girls room. We were fine with that and told her that any changes she wanted to do, she would have to ask us first.

The following week I stopped by to pick up the rent check before I headed out of state to our new home that we rented. Immediately when she opened the door, I noticed that my ENTIRE house had been painted lilac. The entire thing - kitchen, laundry, family room, etc. I had just spent my previous weekend retouching every single wall to make sure it looked nice for her. And it's not like the colors we had on our walls were horrible. It was a neutral sand color throughout the entire house with only the bathrooms and kitchen painted a different color. So needless to say, I was not thrilled with this paint job she decided to do. On top of that, she didn't lay anything down on the carpet while painting so hello paint splatters, AND she decided to paint on the crown molding that was up. Great.

So she starts to tell me about all the things she wants to do to our house. I remind her that she doesn't own the house and that she's just a renter and to not do any changes. She looks at me and says, "Okay, don't me mad. I ripped out the upstairs vanity". Um, what? She decided that the upstairs vanity was not good enough for her so she ripped it out, along with the mirror and put in a single sink vanity that now doesn't even go to the end of the wall. You can see the floor board underneath which I know will start to get moldy with the steam from the shower. The mirrors she picked out doesn't even work for the space, and she decided that our shower needed some shower doors (which were put on crooked). My husband and father in law spent an entire weekend fixing the upstairs plumbing, buying a new faucet, and repairing the shower just to have this chick throw it all away like trash? She promised me from now on that she would get our approval on any changes. Sure.

So some crown molding, base boards, and another new paint job later (oh and did I mention that she's re-tiling the bathroom?), I have no idea what the heck my house looks like because she won't send pictures to me. Oh yes, and there is the fact that she has a fear of men so she will only deal with me via text message (she says she doesn't get reception at the house for phone calls but can text me all day long with stupid non-sense).

I should have known something was up when the rent started coming later and later and the excuses kept getting outrageous. The first time she gave me a bunk fed ex tracking number. When I called her on it, she said that it should work and has no idea why it would be bad. Well the package came, but the date written on the label was about 4 days after she said she actually sent it. That happened a couple of times. Then her next excuse was that there was a family tragedy (that being her bf got into a car accident and she had to stay with him at the hospital at all times). The following month, her first check bounced, then her second check bounced, and then she said that her ex kidnapped her child and that she was in court for the past couple of days. Really? Is that why you couldn't respond to my text messages regarding what the heck was going on? This time I was in town and made her meet me in person with a cashiers check and cash for the late fee. I also told her that we set up paypal so we don't have to deal with personal checks anymore. She was super excited about this and said that that would work out perfectly for her. Yeah if perfectly means that you aren't going to pay. I sent her a reminder text about rent being due. She says, "Of course! No worries, it'll be there on time". Um nope. Now, this is the most outrageous excuse that I have EVER heard in my entire life. She's about 15 days past due on the rent. I'm sitting with my husband and I get a text message (this is after about a week of her ignoring my texts, not returning my voicemails or emails). She says "the teddy bear place has the same name. You have to send pictures!". What the heck are you talking about? She then goes on to say that she ordered 8 beanie babies off of ebay and that the lady has the same exact name as my husband and so she paid $1900 for 8 beanie babies. Okay, dumbass. Did it ever occur to you to look at the amount on the invoice before just automatically sending a huge payment??? It's not rocket science. So she then tells us that we will be getting our rent the following day. Well that came and went and she decided that she didn't want to communicate with us any longer.

So here we are. I had our realtor go over and post the 3 day notice to pay or quit so hopefully that will work out. But then, it was also brought to our attention that she's gone ahead and changed the locks on our house - and just in the past couple of days. I'm hoping that we can evict her because I can't deal with this chick anymore! Oh, and I'm 8 1/2 months pregnant and I get to deal with this crazy renter. All I have to say is check out who you are renting to even after your realtor or property manager does.
